🎃 Halloween Costume Expectations – Lord Beaverbrook High School

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we approach Halloween, students are welcome to participate in the celebrations by wearing a costume to school. We ask for your support in ensuring that costumes are appropriate for a school setting, respectful of others, and safe for the learning environment.

Please review the following expectations with your student before Halloween:

  • Appropriate attire: Costumes must provide appropriate coverage and be suitable for a school environment.
  • Respectful choices: Costumes must not promote racism, discrimination, hate, or offensive stereotypes, or glorify violence.
  • No weapons or replicas: Toy weapons and costume accessories that could pose a safety concern are not permitted.
  • No masks or full-face coverings: Students must remain identifiable throughout the school day.
  • Safe for learning: Costumes and accessories must allow students to move safely and participate fully in classes and school activities.

Students whose costumes do not meet these expectations may be asked to remove or adjust parts of their costume or change into appropriate clothing.

Thank you for helping us ensure that Halloween is an enjoyable, inclusive, and safe experience for everyone at Lord Beaverbrook High School. We look forward to seeing students celebrate creatively while continuing to respect our school community.

How Is Your Child Doing in School?

It’s important to stay informed about your child’s learning, progress and achievement. Parents and guardians are encouraged to regularly check their child’s grades, attendance and academic information through MyCBE/PowerSchool.

If your child is not being successful or is experiencing challenges, please take the next step by contacting their teachers to discuss their progress and identify what can be done to support their success.

If you do not yet have a MyCBE/SchoolEngage account, please register here:

Calgary Transit: Safe & Respectful Behaviour

Parents, guardians and caregivers are encouraged to speak with their students about the importance of safe, respectful and appropriate behaviour on Calgary Transit. Illegal activities, disruptive behaviour, harassment, fighting, property damage, or behaviour that creates a safety concern are not tolerated and may result in enforcement action, including fines or a Calgary Transit banning notice.

Students are expected to follow Calgary Transit rules and respect transit operators, staff and fellow passengers.

If something is not going well on the bus:

  • Immediate danger or emergency: Call 911.
  • Transit safety concern: Text 74100 to report a safety concern to Calgary Transit. www-prd-cdn.calgarytransit.com
  • Calgary Transit Customer Service: 403-262-1000 for general concerns or follow-up. calgarytransit.com

When reporting an incident, provide the bus route/number, location, direction of travel, and as much information about the incident as possible.

Student Parking & Passes

Many of our students drive to school each day, and we appreciate your support in helping keep our student parking lot safe, clean, and respectful for everyone. Please remind your student that all vehicles parked on school property must display a valid Lord Beaverbrook High School parking pass. Parking passes can be purchased through our Business Administrator in the business office.

We also ask students to:

  • Drive slowly and responsibly while on school property.
  • Respect other vehicles and pedestrians.
  • Keep the parking lot free of litter and dispose of garbage appropriately.

Vaping and the Possession or Use of Vaping Products

We are reminding families that vaping and the possession or use of vaping products are prohibited on all Calgary Board of Education (CBE) property, including inside the school, in washrooms, hallways, parking lots, and on school grounds.

As outlined in CBE Administrative Regulation 4024 – Smoke-Free Environment, all CBE facilities and property are smoke-free. This regulation specifically prohibits students from possessing or using vaping products on school property.

Students who are involved in vaping incidents may face disciplinary consequences in accordance with applicable CBE regulations, including AR 6005 – Student Code of Conduct and AR 6006 – Progressive Student Discipline. Consequences will depend on the circumstances of the incident.

We ask parents and guardians to speak with their students about these expectations and the importance of making choices that support their health, safety, and learning. If students are experiencing challenges related to vaping or nicotine use, they are encouraged to seek support from school staff.

Thank you for your support in maintaining a safe, healthy, and respectful learning environment at Lord Beaverbrook High School.
