Counsellors

Students are assigned to counsellors alphabetically. Appointments are booked between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. in the Guidance Office. Parents are invited to make appointments with counsellors by contacting the Guidance Administrative Assistant at 403-259-5585 ext. 2410. 

Counsellors assist students by providing information and counselling in the following areas:

  • Educational planning - course selection and graduation requirements, credit recovery, career exploration, post-secondary planning, “life after high school,” scholarships, bursaries and awards, personal and social issues.

School Resource Officer

The role of the Resource Officer is to provide guidance and act as a legal resource for teachers, students, parents/guardians, and the community at large. Part of this role is to encourage communication and greater understanding among young people and the Calgary Police Service. The School Resource Officer can be contacted through the main office.

All in for Youth

Our school, in partnership with the United Way of Calgary, participates in the “All in for Youth” Initiative (AIFY). This initiative focuses on three main areas: Keep Youth in School; Bring Youth Back to School and; Link Youth to Further Education. Our school continues to work with representatives from the United Way to discuss and strategize how best to partner services and support our students.

Alex Youth Health Centre

Confidential medical support, mental health supports, offer support to get SIN cards, parenting support for teen pregnancies.  Contact: Self-referral to Alex Success Coach

Barrier Removal Funds

These funds are to be used to remove barriers to student learning and achievement. Includes transportation, food, clothing, school supplies, day care costs, health needs (prescription drugs, eye glasses, etc.) tutoring, and out of school counselling. Contact: Success Coach Guidance

Bissett Bursaries

Full first year tuition to 20 AIFY high school graduates who demonstrate financial need, and an interest in continuing their education at SAIT Polytechnic. Contact: Success Coach, LBHS Guidance

Burns Memorial Fund

Support for student living via financial supports and possible living allowances so that the student can continue schooling. Contact: Success Coach Guidance BMF

CBE Mental Health Psychologist

Psycho-educational assessments, PD support, workshops, and consultation. Contact: Guidance

Guidance Counsellors

Counsellors assist students by providing information and counselling in Educational planning - course selection and graduation requirements; Career exploration; post-secondary planning; “life after high school”; scholarships, bursaries and awards; personal and social issues.

Heart of South Calgary Family Center

Available to families with children 0-18 living in South Calgary. Programs include parent education, family support, child development, and information and referral. Contact: self-referral or Guidance

In-Home Settlement Worker

Works with newly arrived immigrant families. Provides resources and direction to help with adjusting to Calgary. Contact Guidance

Learning Lounge

The Learning Lounge is a Generative Learning Environment that is student driven. It is a place that can be accessed by ALL students and teachers. It is relationship based and resource rich.

Math Tutoring

After school math tutoring at one of 5 YMCA locations. Students receive nutritious snacks, two hours of tutoring and mentorship, and a pass to the YMCA for regular attendance. Contact: Guidance

mPower Mentoring

Mentors encourage and empower high school youth to identify their strengths, explore their passions, and achieve their goals as they journey towards adulthood. Contact: Success Coach or Guidance

Off-Campus Coordinator

Is responsible for monitoring work experience placements and RAP positions. School point person for registering students in unique pathway opportunities which include internships, dual credit courses and exploratory positions in the trades. Contact: Laura Freeborn

Resiliency Team

A multidisciplinary team approach has been organized to assist students and parents with challenges that have negatively impacted a students ability to focus on their learning. Contact: Guidance

Spitfirez

Weekly, student driven girls group focused on positive female role models and female empowerment. Contact: LaVerne Bramall, Anne-Marie Foster

Tutorial Support

Tutorial times are offered every morning 9:00 to 9:30 am. Teachers will be in their classrooms (communicated in course outline) and available to work with students. Tutorials may also be offered to students by appointment and arranged between the student and teacher during other times when teacher schedules permit.

Our students’ success is our top priority and we understand that our students live complex lives and that many factors both in school and outside of school can affect their ability to learn. The CBE offers a variety of services (such as Culture and Linguistic Support, Exceptional and Special Needs, and Psychological Services) to support students, their families and our school, so students can be successful learners.
