Greetings parents and guardians,

Thank you for a great week of school.

Our school website houses all of our school information and can be accessed here:https://lordbeaverbrook.cbe.ab.ca/

As we get back into the swing of classes we wanted to remind students that at Lord Beaverbrook High School we believe that regular and punctual attendance is essential to student success in High School.

Athletics News

Playoffs start this week. Girls Soccer congratulations on an amazing season. Boys Football games are happening this week and next, please remember only family and students of the schools playing may attend the games. As it is playoffs there is a charge for admission at the gate.

High School IPP Process

Teachers have access to all IPP information from previous CBE schools. Shared IPP information from previous school boards will be entered in early September.

September - teachers read through IPPs from last year and get to know students

October - teacher and student set a target for the semester (usually a skill or behaviour needing improvement related to IPP diagnosis)

November 26 - Draft IPP sent home with student for review and edit requests.

November 28 - student conferences online (request for edits to specific teacher)

Accommodations

1. Classroom accommodations

2. Access to The Learning Lounge after instruction. A space available for students on an IPP to: work, regulate, focus, use a chromebook, get one on one support, use voice typing for written work, set up exam accommodations

3. Exam Accommodation for Multiple Choice Exams (audio reader on a chromebook with headphones in The Learning Lounge).

4. Exam Accommodation for Written Response (voice typing on a chromebook in The Learning Lounge).

Important Information

All students have a target for self advocacy and communication, particularly grade 10s. Students will be reminded and encouraged to use their IPP accommodations. Students will be reminded and encouraged to communicate with their teachers about strategies and accommodations that have been successful or that they'd like to try. Exam accommodations need to be requested with the teacher at least 1-2 days before exam. Students need to bring their own plug in headphones for multiple choice exam reader. Students must use exam accommodations throughout the semester in order to be able to use for final exams and diploma exams. The Learning Lounge (room 108) will manage extra time if needed.
