Thank you for a wonderful week of school. This week marked the start of Semester 2. Included in this message are a few reminders for our students to start the semester.


Attendance

As we begin Semester 2, we want to remind families that regular attendance is essential for high school success. Daily attendance supports learning, assessment completion, and strong connections with teachers and peers. Even occasional absences can impact progress in semestered courses. Thank you for supporting punctual, consistent attendance and for communicating with the school when absences are unavoidable.


Cell Phone Policy

To support focused learning environments, students are expected to have cell phones put away during instructional time, unless a teacher has approved their use for learning. Thank you for reinforcing these expectations with your child. Athletics News

For full athletics schedules and game details, visit CSHSAA or our school calendar which is available here. This past week we saw our basketball teams in action. Our curling team is in its inaugural season was in competition and picked up a big win this week.  


Student Pickup

Student pick-up and drop-off is to only take place in the student parking lot not in the front parking lot.


Student Fees

All student fees have been updated and are ready to be paid. Thank you to those of you who have seen those show up and have taken care of them. Please let us know if you have any concerns.

Wizeprep is offering a series of free, live online webinars for students and parents covering:

  • What to expect on the SAT and ACT
  • Practical test-taking strategies

IPP Dates

  • Semester 2 IPP will be emailed March 13 for those who returned the consent to email page from Nov 26. This second IPP will include: semester 1 final current learning and semester 2 initial current learning.   
  • Student Conference March 19 & 20
  • Students should discuss with new semester 2 teachers, strategies and accommodation that work. -Students are encouraged to access exam accommodations in The Learning Lounge: audio reader (bring headphones), voice typing.


Junior Police Academy

Calgary Police Services invites Calgary students ages 12-16 to Junior Police Academy. This free experience immerses youth into the world of a Calgary police officer and many other aspects of law enforcement.

Upgrading for Semester 2

If you plan on upgrading a core stream (ELA 30-2 to 30-1) we recommend that you have a mark higher then 65% in the -2 stream to be considered for the -1 class.

Graduation Requirements

All students in grade 12 are eligible to participate in this school celebration but must be a student in good standing according to the school’s code of conduct, maintain regular attendance, and pay the required graduation fee, which will be available on MyCBE at the end of January. The fees can be paid directly at the Business Office or through your student’s MyCBE account online.


Students must have credit for the following courses in addition to the 100 credits in total by the end of the school year.

ELA 30-1 or 30-2

Social Studies 30-1 or 30-2

Math – 20 level 

Science – 20 level

CALM 20

Physical Education 10

Additional 30 level (1) (5 credits)

Additional 30 level (2) (5 credits)

10 credits in CTS/Fine Arts/Second Language/Phys. Ed 20/30 

100 Credits in total

Investing in the Future Award Scholarship

It is with great excitement and extreme pleasure that EducationMatters announces the return of the “Investing in the Future Award” for the fourth year in a row!

This year, the incredibly generous donor is once again offering 10 awards of $100,000 each ($25,000 per year over 4 years)!!!
